Welcome
Background of the Dutch license plate collectors association.
We are a varied group of people who share one passion: collecting license plates
History
The history of “De Nummerplaat” goes back to the early 1980’s. A saving bank called RPS issued brochures featuring various hobbies like stamp, coins and numberplate collecting.
Following these brochures, an international swap meet of car emblems, automobile end numberplate collectors was held on the 13th and 14th of November 1982.
Some people launched the idea of establishing a club of numberplate collectors in the Netherlands. This idea was well met and resulted in a club called “De Nummerplaat” founded at the end of 1983.
The first newsletter was issued in February 1984 and our first swap meet was held in Maassluis, on the 11th of March 1983.
On January 1st 1988, the club of plate friends was converted into an official society with club constitutions and an elected board of directors.
Annual swap meets are held four or five times a year. A newsletter is issued in full colour four times a year as well.
What activities do we organize?
Our association organizes a meeting four till five times a year, each time in another city in various parts of the country. All members of our association can use tables (free of charge) to show their plates and trading material to other visitors. These meetings are the best way to meet other collectors, start new friendships and grow your collection by obtaining new plates.
These meetings have free entrance. Many tables are put in a big hall to enable the visitors to show their plates and trading material. Please visit the photo gallery for a first impression of such meetings.
In addition to the meetings, a full color magazine is published each quarter. The language of the magazine is Dutch, with brief translations in English.
